Spark Thrift Server with DBine
How to connect DBine to Spark Thrift Server and what you can do once it's connected. This page is written from what the Spark Thrift Server driver says about itself, so it matches the version of DBine you download.
Connect
- In DBine, open New connection.
- Pick Spark Thrift Server in the list of engines.
- Fill in the fields below, press Test connection and then Save.
Default port: 10000.
General
| Field | Description |
|---|---|
| Server required | Example: localhost |
| Port | Example: 10000 |
| Default database | |
| User | |
| Password | Kept in the system keychain, never in DBine's files. |
| ODBC driver | ODBC driver name as shown in odbcinst.ini. The Simba Spark driver is used (the “Databricks ODBC Driver” / “Simba Spark ODBC Driver”), a free download; Cloudera's Hive driver also works, because the server speaks the HiveServer2 protocol. Default: Simba Spark ODBC Driver |
| Read-only | On or off. |
SSH tunnel. The connection can go through an SSH server, even through a chain of bastions, with a password, a private key or the SSH agent. The server's fingerprint is checked against known_hosts or confirmed the first time.
Advanced
| Field | Description |
|---|---|
| Additional attributes | They are appended to the end of the ODBC connection string and replace the ones with the same name (TLS, timeouts, character set, Kerberos or Windows integrated security…). Example: Key=Value;OtherKey=Value |
| Script sending | How a script is sent to the server. If the engine accepts several statements per request, “All text at once” keeps blocks such as BEGIN … END intact. Options: One statement at a time (separated by ;), Blocks separated by GO, All the text at once Default: One statement at a time (separated by ;) |
| ODBC library | Path to the ODBC driver manager (libodbc.2.dylib, libodbc.so.2 or odbc32.dll), only if it isn't found in the usual paths. A file on this computer. |
What the explorer shows
The objects appear right under the connection:
- Tables
- Views
Query editor
The editor uses SQL, with completion for the connection's objects. Statements and commands run against the database selected in the tab.
Ready-made templates for new objects:
- New view
- New function
