This policy explains what data is handled by DBine, the desktop application for managing databases, and by the website dbine.com. Both belong to AddLayer. For any privacy question, write to us at support@dbine.com.
In short
- Your connections, queries, scripts and preferences are stored on your device. Passwords go into the system keychain.
- DBine sends anonymous usage data, turned on by default: on first launch a notice explains what is sent, and you can turn it off at any time in the settings. There are no AddLayer user accounts.
- If you turn on backup to Google Drive or OneDrive, the backup is encrypted on your device with a passphrase only you know and stored in your account. AddLayer never receives it and cannot read it.
- We do not sell, rent or share personal data.
Data the application stores on your device
DBine stores the following in a local database inside the application's configuration folder: connections (name, server, user, options, tags), explorer folders, saved queries, the script library and your preferences. Passwords and other secret fields are stored in the operating system's keychain (macOS Keychain, Windows Credential Manager or Secret Service on Linux), never in files or in logs. This data does not leave your device except in the cases described below, which are always turned on by you. The anonymous usage data, which is on by default, includes none of this data.
Connecting to your databases
DBine connects directly to the servers you configure. Queries and their results travel between your device and those servers without passing through AddLayer. Some features, such as the Profiler, may temporarily turn on logging on the server to capture queries; the application tells you when it does so and turns it off when finished.
Backup to Google Drive and OneDrive
Sync is optional. If you turn it on with Google Drive or OneDrive, you sign in through your system's browser and authorize DBine with the minimum permissions:
- Google Drive:
https://www.googleapis.com/auth/drive.appdata, which grants access only to a private application folder in your Drive (not visible in your file list). DBine cannot see, read or modify any other file in your Drive. - OneDrive:
Files.ReadWrite.AppFolder(the Apps/DBine folder), plusUser.Readandoffline_accessto keep you signed in.
What is stored there: a single backup file containing your connections, saved passwords, folders, queries and preferences. It is encrypted on your device before it leaves (XChaCha20-Poly1305, with a key derived with Argon2id from a passphrase you choose). Only the date, the device name and the application version remain readable. Neither Google, nor Microsoft, nor AddLayer can read the contents.
What it is used for: solely to store and retrieve your backup on your own devices. DBine does not use this data for advertising, does not use it to train artificial intelligence models, does not transfer it to third parties, and no one at AddLayer has access to it.
Where credentials are kept: your account's access tokens and the backup passphrase are stored in your system's keychain. DBine never sees the password to your Google or Microsoft account.
How to revoke access: from the application (Settings › Sync › Stop syncing on this machine, which also offers to delete the backup) or at any time from myaccount.google.com/permissions or account.live.com/consent/Manage. You can delete the backup from the application or by removing DBine's data from your account settings.
DBine's use and transfer to any other app of information received from Google APIs will adhere to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.
Script library in git
If you link the library to a git repository, your scripts are pushed to the repository you choose (GitHub, GitLab or another) using the git installed on your device and your own credentials. DBine does not store those credentials.
Artificial intelligence assistant
The assistant is optional and never runs queries on its own. What data leaves your device depends on the provider you choose:
- Built-in model, Ollama or LM Studio: they run on your device; nothing leaves it.
- Claude Code or Codex: the question and the context (the engine, the database structure, the editor text and the last error) are sent to that provider using your own account, under its terms and privacy policy. Data rows from your tables are never sent.
Component downloads
Some components are downloaded the first time you use them: database drivers and the DuckDB library from GitHub, and the built-in assistant's engine and models from GitHub and Hugging Face. As with any download, those services see your IP address. The application verifies each file against its SHA-256 signature.
Anonymous usage data
DBine sends anonymous usage data, turned on by default. On first launch, a notice explains what is sent and what is not.
You can turn it off at any time in Settings › General › Share anonymous usage data; from that moment on nothing
more is sent. To turn it off for an entire device (for example, on installations managed by a company), setting the environment
variable DO_NOT_TRACK=1 or DBINE_TELEMETRY=0 is enough. We use it to know how much DBine is used, which
database engines and which parts of the application to prioritize and which operating systems it runs on.
Only three events are sent: the application started (once per run), a connection was opened (the first time you connect to
each engine in a run, with only the engine type, for example postgres, sqlserver or redis)
and an application module was opened (the first time in a run, with only its type, for example query,
monitor or compare). Each event also carries the DBine version, the operating system and its version, the application's language, whether it is a
development build, and a random session identifier that changes on every run and after 4 hours of inactivity. There is no
identifier of the user, the device or the installation. The approximate country is derived from the connection; the IP address
is not stored.
It never sends connection names, servers, ports, users, databases, tables or schemas, queries, results or any data from your databases, passwords or secrets.
The data is processed by Aptabase, open-source analytics designed for privacy, in its United States region. If there is no internet connection the event is discarded, not stored for later.
The dbine.com website
The website uses Google Analytics and Microsoft Clarity to understand how it is used: pages visited, device type and browser, approximate country and interaction with the page (clicks and scrolling, in aggregate form). These services use their own cookies and identifiers and process data according to their policies (Google, Microsoft). You can block them from your browser or with the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on. The application does not include any of these services.
If you email us, we use your address and your message only to reply to you.

DBine is a tool for professionals and is not directed to children under 13.
Your rights
You can ask us for access to, correction of or deletion of the personal data we hold about you (for example, data from an email you sent us) by writing to support@dbine.com. The application's data is on your device and in your own accounts: you control it and delete it directly.
The data subject has the right to access their personal data free of charge at intervals of no less than six months, unless a legitimate interest to that effect is demonstrated, as provided in Article 14, paragraph 3 of Argentine Personal Data Protection Law No. 25.326. The Agency for Access to Public Information (Agencia de Acceso a la Información Pública), as the Supervisory Authority of Law No. 25.326, has the power to handle complaints and claims filed by anyone whose rights are affected by non-compliance with the regulations in force on personal data protection.
Changes to this policy
If we change this policy, we will post the new version on this page with its date. If a change affects how Google Drive or OneDrive data is used, you will see it before it takes effect.
